The Hero known as Link...

NAME: Link

GAME OF ORIGIN: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Brothers Melee

AGE: 19-20, at least. He was 17-going-on-18 at the end of OoT, but lost track of time at the Smash tournament

HEIGHT: 5'9"...5'10" on a good day

WEIGHT: 170 lbs, give or take a few (without his equipment)

BODY TYPE: Heavily muscled, moreso than he was in OoT. Broad through the shoulders and chest; muscular arms and legs. Has received many wounds as a result of the Smash tournament; the major scars (i.e., the ones that were left on purpose) can be seen here.

EYES: Cobalt blue.

HAIR: Blond, shoulder-length, usually tied back in a tail and hidden in his hat. Long fringe parts in the center to frame his face; some loose bits of hair too short to be tied back hang about his ears.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Pointed ears with pierced ear lobes (left ear has one silvery blue hoop; right ear has one of Dark's red hoops, while Dark has his missing blue one). Bears the mark of the Triforce on the back of his left hand. Has a tattoo on his left bicep of the Master Sword, Falchion and Sword of Seals: the three swords wielded by the Three Swords of the Smash Tournament (himself, Marth and Roy, respectively). On the back of his neck is a second tattoo, an inverted Triforce shaded in red that's reminiscent of blood, and fades to black at the edges; this tattoo is for Dark ([livejournal.com profile] darkmastersword).

CLOTHING: Dressed in a long green tunic over white pants and shirt. Gauntlets, belt/baldric and boots are reddish-brown with gold buckles where applicable. Green hat matches tunic.

BIOGRAPHY: Link grew up as an outcast among the Kokiri: the Boy-Without-A-Fairy. When darkness started to cover Hyrule, the Great Deku Tree started Link down the path to becoming the Hero of Time and saving the world. Upon claiming the Master Sword, the Hero's destiny, the too-young child was sent into a magical sleep for seven years.

At the conclusion of those seven years, Link woke to suddenly find himself with the body of an adult, in a Hyrule he no longer recognized. He was assigned the task of purifying the sacred Temples and awakening their Sages. With the power of the Sages and the Master Sword, Link was able to vanquish Ganondorf, the evil ruler who had poisoned Hyrule. He was then to be sent back in time, to relive the seven years he had missed.

The spell Princess Zelda cast on him did not reset his seven years, however: instead, it sent him to a tournament of fighters. The tournament, run by two ghostly, magical beings known as the "Hands," was one in which participants fought to the death, only to be revived to fight again and again. (More on his history/experiences in the Smash tournament coming soon.)

RELATIONSHIPS: Growing up, Link was very much an outcast. His only friend was Saria of the Kokiri, who was revealed to be the Sage of Forest and ascended into the Sacred Realm when Link purified the Forest Temple. He was befriended by Navi, the fairy sent to him by the Great Deku Tree. He is also on friendly terms with Malon, of Lon Lon Ranch, though he does not know her very well.

Upon awakening as an adult, Link was once again accompanied by the fairy Navi. Additionally he is visited and aided by Sheik, a man believed to be one of the last of the Sheikah tribe. Princess Zelda later revealed that she was Sheik, and his appearance was only a disguise.

At the Smash Tournament, he befriends two other swordsmen: Marth and Roy. Together they refer to themselves as the Three Swords, and rely heavily on each other's support to keep their fraying sanity intact. The three have matching tattoos of their swords on the bicep of their sword arms: Marth and Roy on their right and Link on his left. They are more-than-friends, and have gone as far as to seek comfort (and more) in one another's arms, but don't really know how to describe the whatever-it-is they have with each other.

CANONMATES: Marth | [livejournal.com profile] thedancingblade, Roy | [livejournal.com profile] theswordofseals

SEXUALITY: Since I've been asked, yes, Link is bisexual. He spent a good part of OoT with a puppy love crush on Zelda, and started to develop a curiosity about/attraction for men as he got to know Sheik. The Smash Tournament killed all fondness he had for Zelda, and for Sheik, whom he believed to be a lie on Zelda's part. He took both Marth and Roy as lovers. He would not be opposed to a female partner, but he would be opposed to Zelda.

GENERAL DEMEANOR: He is the Hero of Time, though he's admittedly jaded and often angry. Confident, almost cocky, in regard to his skill. Occasionally melancholy, especially in regards to his tournament memories. Won't hesitate to jump in the path of a blade for someone important to him, yet has many nightmarish memories of having done so. Shameless flirt if he thinks he can get away with it. As the Hero of Smash, he's got a totally different demeanor than he does as the Hero of Time: he's much more prone to violence, and has an almost sadistic streak; this is the part of his mind that was broken by the tournament. If he's angered enough he will slip back into that persona.

PREJUDICES: Link has a unique view on Zelda: as a result of meeting the Zelda at the Smash tournament, he believes she deceived him about the Master Sword and the seven-year sleep, about the identity of the man he thought could be a kindred spirit (and perhaps more), and about sending him back in time. Additionally, that Zelda was violent and ruthless in her killing. Insanity and instability were by-products of tournament rigors: all that mattered to the Hands was the participant's ability to fight for the Hands' amusement. Link has been killed by her, both as herself and in the guise of Sheik (as she could freely transform between the two), many times.

BEST QUALITIES: Courage befitting the bearer of that piece of the Triforce. Extremely loyal to his friends, and those he cares about. And, according to Dark, cute.

WORST QUALITIES: Abrasive. Often offensive. Quick to anger. Morbid.

CAREER: Hero of Time. Tournament fighter in the Smash Tournament.

SKILLS: In addition to being skilled in the use of his equipment, he's fairly good at puzzles (lol, dungeons). Because of his time spent at the Smash tournament, he has developed two distinct fighting styles: one is the standard OoT sword-and-shield combination. The other forgoes the shield and is reminiscent of Marth and Roy; he is able to wield his sword in both his left and right hands for this style (as he learned it from two right-handed swordsmen), though his right is his weaker. Right-handed he can hold his own against a weaker enemy (think "standard" battle) but he'd be in trouble in a serious fight (i.e., "boss" battle); he mostly uses his right as a distraction to enemies who expect him to be solely left-handed. He has minor knowledge of and skill in the use of the body's pressure points to help relieve muscle tension and/or pain; it's a trick he learned from Roy while at the tournament. He's also an accomplished Ocarina player; initially he learned to use the instrument as a child, and he spent a lot of time at the tournament playing it, both for himself and for Marth and Roy. Songs he knows are listed here.

PASTIMES: Contrary to his proclaimed dislike of the tournament, there's a part of Link that likes, and needs, a good fight. He spars daily, but rarely invites people to train with him unless they're ones he really trusts. Though hes never been formally trained, he's been known to dance; there's a freedom in the movement that is, for him, a form of release. He enjoys playing his ocarina, and often plays for the people he knows can't hear it. His favorite weather is a storm -- rain, wind, snow, sand, any type of storm -- the more violent the better. He prefers to enjoy them by being out in them.

EQUIPMENT: (see detailed list here) Primary equipment includes the Master Sword and Hylian Shield; also keeps the Fairy Bow and longshot close at hand. Keeps a dagger in his left boot; sleeps with said dagger in his hand (point down, with the blade along his gauntlet). Possesses both the Goron (fire-resistant) and Zora (water-breathing) tunics, as well as the golden gauntlets and a couple of bottles. The Ocarina of Time is kept in a pouch at his waist; despite having given it back to Zelda at the end of OoT, when he woke at the Smash tournament it was this instrument, not the Fairy Ocarina, that he found in his possession. All other equipment he possessed at the end of OoT was not with him during the Smash tournament; he doesn't know what happened to it.

Skilled in combat with single-handed sword and shield; is also able to wield two-handed swords. Occasionally will fight without the shield, in a manner similar to the swordsmen he met at the tournament. Skilled archer, both on foot and on horseback. Experienced in the use of bombs as both weapons and tools.
